The Gallery’s START program has been encouraging South Australia’s youngest artists for six years, inspiring the creativity of tens of thousands of young art lovers at the monthly START days.


Sunday 6 December, 11am – 3pm

START celebrates the beginning of Summer and the end of another creative year with festive activities, Dumpster DJ sets, cultural performances by Kuma Kaaru and special tours of the works of art inspired by the sea in TARNANTHI.

11am, 11.30am, 12 noon, 12.30pm, 1pm, 1.30pm & 2pm – Children’s Tours
Join a special tour looking at the works of art inspired by the sea in the TARNANTHI exhibition.
Location Meet in the Santos Atrium

11am – 3pm – Festive Blooms
Create a festive flower to wear, to decorate your Christmas tree with, or to add to a card. Be inspired by the exuberant work of TARNANTHI artist Brian Robinson.
Location The Bush Footy Studio, Function Room and Radford Auditorium

11am – 3pm – Face Painting
Our team of face and body artists will be here to transform you with festive designs.

11am – 3pm – START Sound
Dumpster DJ Gus Clutterbuck plays TARNANTHI inspired tunes for you to party to!

1pm – Kuma Kaaru Cultural Performance
Kuma Kaaru means ‘One Blood’ in the Kaurna language, signifying the dancers’ connections to multiple language groups unified on the Adelaide plains. Learn about their stories, languages, songs and dances. Their performances raise cultural awareness and connection to country through the art of movement.
