Join Reko Rennie as he talks about his work in Gallery 25.
Kamilaroi artist Reko Rennie grew up in Footscray, Victoria, where he developed his distinctive visual language on the streets. He has experimented in private and public spaces with media as wide-ranging as graffiti, etching, neon and new media. Drawing on the bold geometric patterns and motifs of his Kamilaroi heritage, Rennie’s ‘tag’ combines a number of cultural references including the Aboriginal flag, the crown and the diamond. By combining symbolism from the past and present, and drawing imagery from his ancestral homeland in New South Wales, and his birthplace of the city of Melbourne, Rennie is able to explore the depths of his personal identity and his place within Aboriginal Australia.
